Mullein Seeds – Verbascum thapsus

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a striking biennial known for its large, soft, pale green leaves and towering stalk of bright yellow flowers.

During its first year, mullein forms a low-growing rosette of fuzzy leaves. In its second year, it sends up a tall flowering stalk that can reach seven feet or more in ideal conditions. Yellow flowers appear throughout the summer, followed by seed pods containing an incredible number of tiny seeds.

Mullein prefers full sun and well-draining soil and is commonly found growing in open fields, along roadsides and in other disturbed areas.

Growing from Seed:

Mullein is easily propagated from seed. Scatter seeds directly onto the soil in spring or fall and lightly press them into the surface. Because the seeds are extremely small and require light for germination, do not bury them deeply. Keep the area lightly moist until established.

Once established, mullein requires very little maintenance and readily self-seeds when allowed to complete its natural growing cycle.
